Block of the Month

Join our BOM activities and create beautiful quilt blocks while learning new techniques! Each month we will feature a unique block design, perfect for quilters of all skill levels.

 BOM plans for 2025

We are featuring block patterns inspired by the history of slavery. The blocks have no historical connection to slave-made quilts; however, they tell stories and are symbolic for events happening during slavery.

Each block will reflect a homespun look using earth tone colors, ethnic fabrics, or any fabric print of your choice.

NTQG will supply you with the instructions and a brief history that inspired the block patterns. We hope you will participate and create your own interpretation of each block.

Blocks will be raffled off at the next NTQG business meeting so that raffle winners can sew the blocks together and create a quilt.

March 2025 and the coming months feature blocks from:

Facts & Fabrications:  Unraveling the History of Quilts and Slavery, by Barbara Brackman (C&T Publishing, 2006).

Join us for our monthly business meetings, which are held on the fourth Saturday of each month (excluding November and December) from 10:00 a.m. to noon, both in person and on Zoom. We look forward to seeing you!
