Committees

Members are encouraged to join and participate in Guild committees.

Benevolent - Ruth Raickett-Roberts, Chair

The Benevolent Committee delivers a benevolent response on behalf of the Guild in the event of illness of a Guild member, the death of a Guild member’s spouse, parent, or child, and when an unusual occurrence happens to the Guild member.  In the event of the death of a member, a member’s spouse, parent or child, a monetary amount will be sent to the member or their estate.

 

Block of the Month - Eddie Warren, Chair

The BOM Committee is responsible for coordinating all monthly activities throughout the year.

 

Community Service - Cynthia Varnado, Chair

The Community Service Committee is responsible for coordinating and implementing the community service projects, as directed by the Guild.

 

Education - Jean Cobbs & Olevia Cooper, Co-Chairs

The Education Committee is responsible for overseeing the Tuesday/Thursday quilting education for park district patrons and Guild members.  The Committee acts as liaison between the City of Chicago Park District and the Guild in providing and promoting workshops and activities to the community.

 

Exchange

The Exchange Committee collaborates with quilt guilds and other artistic expressions on projects that will benefit the community.

 

Fundraising - Sheila White, Chair

The Fundraising Committee supports the Guild’s activities by raising funds through engaging events. Possible efforts include organizing raffles, selling handmade items at fairs and shows, and securing sponsorships from local businesses.

 

Historian - Shirley Dukes, Chair

The Historian is the official recorder of all events and materials related to the Guild and is responsible for maintaining the Guild scrapbook, publicity, newspaper clippings, and photos.  

 

Library - Karyn Collymore-Chalmers, Chair

The Library Committee is responsible for acquiring and maintaining books, magazines, and other quilting related materials for use by Guild members.  Materials are available for loan at monthly meetings.

 

Membership - Zakiya Williams, Chair

The Membership Committee is responsible for registering new members, providing new member information folders, collecting annual dues, maintaining the membership roster, and providing directories to the entire membership.

 

Newsletter - Junetta Goodman, Chair

The editor is responsible for publishing and distributing the Guild’s newsletter Quilt Talk, published six times a year.

 

Program - Jacqueline Doctor Johnson, Chair

The Program Committee is responsible for planning and executing creative monthly second Saturday programming and for maintaining an ongoing calendar of events.

 

Publicity

The Publicity Committee coordinates and implements all Guild publicity.

 

Quilt Show

The Quilt Show Committee is responsible for planning and executing all aspects of the Guild’s quilt show.

 

Social - Wendy West, Chair

The Social Committee plans and coordinates all Guild related social events and gatherings.

 

Website - Nik-ki Whittingham, Chair

The Website Committee maintains the Guild’s website, which is used to inform and promote Guild’s activities to the public.

Join us for our monthly business meetings, which are held on the fourth Saturday of each month (excluding November and December) from 10:00 a.m. to noon, both in person and on Zoom. We look forward to seeing you!
